October 16, 2007: A Washington Times editorial referenced NEFA Senior Investigator Evan Kohlmann and cited NEFA translations of communiqués that reflect increasing divisions between Al-Qaida and other Sunni insurgents. October 16, 2007: NEFA Senior Investigator Evan Kohlmann was quoted in a New York Daily News story on the status of Al-Qaida's network in Iraq, in which he argues that the organization has "reached a crisis point." October 12, 2007: The NBC News Investigative Unit cited NEFA's translations of recent statements from jihadist organizations in Iraq and quoted NEFA Senior Investigator Evan Kohlmann in a story examining the widening rift between Iraqi insurgent groups and Al-Qaida. October 9, 2007: MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann interviewed NEFA Senior Investigator Evan Kohlmann about a leak that purportedly revealed a backdoor providing advance access to Al-Qaida tapes before they were publicly released. October 4, 2007: A United Press International article quoted NEFA Senior Investigator Evan Kohlmann’s analysis of the Islamic State of Iraq’s conflict with fellow Sunni insurgents. September 29, 2007: NEFA Senior Investigator Evan Kohlmann was quoted in a Los Angeles Times article about the killing of Al-Qaida in Iraq (AQI) leader Abu Osama Tunisi by the U.S. military. Kohlmann noted that an AQI-affiliated web site had announced the death of an individual by the same name in 2006. September 28, 2007: NEFA Senior Investigator Doug Farah delivered a talk at the New American Foundation on his book Merchant of Death. September 23, 2007: Scotland on Sunday quoted NEFA Senior Investigator Evan Kohlmann – identified as “a leading al-Qaeda expert” – who assessed the danger posed by convicted terrorist Mohammed Atif Siddique. Kohlmann stated, “At first glance, Mohammed Siddique might seem to be a reasonably poor candidate as an international terrorist. Unfortunately, as other recent troubling events in Glasgow and London have unequivocally demonstrated, we no longer live in an era dominated by the monolithic threat of intricately-planned 'organized terrorism.'” September 23, 2007: NEFA Senior Investigator Douglas Farah published an article in the “Sunday Outlook” section of The Washington Post on notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout, "the man who makes war possible." September 17, 2007: NEFA Senior Investigator Doug Farah was quoted in a Dallas Morning News article on the Holy Land Foundation trial. The article noted that “Mr. Farah co-wrote the first comprehensive analysis of the Holy Land documents for the Nine Eleven Finding Answers Foundation.” NEFA Contributor Jeff Breinholt was also quoted in the story.
